Moving an oversized and time-sensitive challenge for an automotive Tier 1 in the semiconductor industry

The semiconductor industry remains on a recovery path after the crisis in 2021. In addition to final products, transporting machinery to expand operations is essential for the development of companies in the sector. Find out how we solved this challenge.

Highlights and result of the operation

Confidence in the integral service, from the procedures to every detail of the movement, with time-sensitive delivery of the client’s projects.

Our client

Tier 1 of the Automotive Industry, global leader in technology, with more than 100 manufacturing plants in almost 50 countries of the world, dedicated to the most difficult challenges of mobility through the integration of software and systems, providing relevant solutions for each of its customers.

The challenge

Manufacturing companies around the world have not yet emerged from the great semiconductor crisis started on the pandemic – mainly in the Automotive Industry.

Enterprises in the microchip sector need to be constantly expanding to respond to the -still intense- market demand, negotiating more raw materials and expanding their production capacity.

To achieve this, our client needed to import oversized and overweight machinery to its plants in northern Mexico, within its budget, safely and in time to start producing quite relevant projects.

The solution

The machinery factory is in Switzerland, with no direct flights to northern Mexico.

Our client’s logistics team determined that the best route for delivery was through the United States.

Following each of the requirements to the letter, the xpd global Automobility team, with talents in Europe, the United States and Mexico, joined forces to reach the best solution.

Shipping all the machinery on a charter flight would be out of the budget of the operation; so, the alternative found was to divide the material into two flights, with arrivals in Houston and Dallas (TX, USA), consolidate the material in a secure warehouse and cross the land border to the plants in Mexico.

Our differentiator

Our own teams specialized in Industrial Projects, Air Priority services and in the Automotive Industry also have the ability to negotiate with the best carriers for each movement.

In today’s case study, we got our client:

  • spaces in two flights, coordinating their operations to transport oversized machinery at the right time,
  • a fully reliable LTL carrier for ground movements between the United States and Mexico
  • all the necessary documentation, including the Complemento Carta Porte in Mexico
  • Negotiation of warehouse space and specialized equipment to distribute and consolidate the machinery that should arrive at each client’s plant.
